Scott Bessent Dismisses Criticism of Trump's $1 Billion Crypto Windfall -- Says There's No 'Appearance Prob
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dismissed criticism over President Donald Trump’s more than $1 billion in cryptocurrency-related earnings. In an interview with CBS News, Bessent said he does not believe Trump’s financial gains create an ethical or even an “appearance” problem, arguing that administration policies aim to strengthen innovation in emerging technologies. The comments followed personal financial disclosures released Tuesday, which showed Trump earned more than $526.8 million from World Liberty Financial, the crypto venture launched in late 2024 with Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. The filing also reported over $635 million in royalties from a licensing agreement involving CIC Digital LLC and “celebration coins,” pushing combined revenue beyond $1 billion. Trump also told CNBC he was unaware of the large investments but said nothing would make the situation illegal.
