SEC Flags AI 'Super Intelligence' and Tokenization as Systemic Market Risks
The SEC’s Division of Examinations added “super intelligence and other advanced technologies” and tokenization to its FY2027 examination priorities, signaling heightened scrutiny for how these trends affect market operations and compliance. Released Thursday, the eight-point list covers more than 34,000 registrants and places advanced AI-related technologies under areas that could affect operations, compliance, fraud prevention, and investor protection. Tokenization appears separately under evolving market infrastructure risks, alongside Treasury clearing reforms, suggesting compliance programs for broker-dealers, advisers, and transfer agents building tokenized products will receive closer examiner attention. The SEC framed the move as an adaptive posture, and noted the list isn’t exhaustive.
