Sensex gains 176 points, Nifty above 24,300 as Indian markets open in green
Indian markets opened higher on Monday, with BSE Sensex up 176.99 points (0.23%) to 77,940.90 and Nifty 50 rising 36.00 points (0.15%) to 24,306.85. The GIFT Nifty was at 24,365.50 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained to 23,476.00, while Shanghai and Thailand’s SET Composite also edged up. In contrast, South Korea’s KOSPI fell sharply to 7,933.28, and declines were also reported for Japan’s Nikkei 225, Taiwan Weighted, Singapore’s Straits Times, and the Jakarta Composite. Ahead of the session, commentators noted a wave of capital raising via large public issues and Offers for Sale by institutions and private equity. Commodities softened: Brent fell 0.51% to US$71.74/bbl, crude oil slipped 0.47% to US$68.44/bbl, and gold edged down to US$4,165.62. Analysts pointed to OPEC+ raising July quotas by 188,000 bpd and US labor data easing expectations of Fed hikes.
