Social Security checks: Commissioner Frank Bisignano made a surprising prediction for monthly benefits as COLA 2027 increase looms
Social Security commissioner Frank Bisignano said he expects the program to continue for “another 90 years,” citing a commitment from the Trump administration to “protect and preserve” benefits. His comments come as seniors look ahead to the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) amid rising inflation and ongoing uncertainty about the program’s future. Social Security’s own trustees estimate the retirement trust fund could become insolvent as early as the fourth quarter of 2032, about six years. The SSA is scheduled to release 2027 COLA numbers Wednesday, following September CPI data. AARP expects a 3.6% increase, or about $75 more per month. About 71 million Americans receive benefits, and political timing around proposed one-time payments draws criticism.
