Stocks close mixed Monday, Asian markets sink
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed mixed Monday as the broader market showed a bifurcated tone: the tech-led Nasdaq rose while the Dow slipped modestly. The Dow fell 80.77 points, or 0.16%, to finish at 50,786.01, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 220.23 points, or 0.86%, to 25,929.66. The S&P 500 rose 21.99 points, or 0.30%, to 7,405.73, with volume at 2.919 billion shares. Across regions, Europe closed with mixed results and Asia posted steep declines, underscoring a divided risk environment that traders are navigating. Asia delivered dramatic losses with Japan's Nikkei 225 dropping 3.8% to 64,024.60, South Korea's KOSPI down 8.29% to 7,484.41, and Indonesia's IDX down 4.52% to 5,342.14; Taiwan, Hong Kong and India also logged declines, while Canada and Europe showed a more muted response.
