Stocks erase morning rally after prior week's sell-off | Arkansas Democrat Gazette
U.S. stocks gave back an early gain on Monday after the prior week’s sell-off left technology and AI shares still shaky. The S&P 500 slipped 0.5% after trimming a 1.1% morning rise, the Dow Jones added 213 points (+0.4%), and the Nasdaq fell 1.1%. Oil helped somewhat: Brent dropped 7.6% to $104.77 per barrel, reflecting uncertainty over when the Iran war would normalize global supply. Market swings also reflected concerns that Big Tech’s heavy AI investment in data centers may not translate into enough productivity or profit. Alphabet’s shares fell more than 12% Thursday, and on Monday it erased an initial 2.6% pop, ending down 0.3%. Nvidia moved from +2.6% early to -1.3%. Outside tech, many S&P 500 names rose, including United Airlines (+4.8%), Southwest (+3.6%) and Carnival (+4.2%).
