Tbilisi Municipal Inspection removes unauthorized stalls around Station Square
Tbilisi Municipal Inspection removes unauthorized stalls around Station Square as part of a cleanup effort affecting street trading near transit hubs. The Tbilisi Municipal Inspection, working with Tbilservice Group, removed unauthorized outdoor stalls and cleared debris around Station Square metro station and the nearby Deserters’ Market. The operation covered the metro station area and streets including Tevdore Mghvdeli, Abastumani and Tsinamdzghvrishvili, after which workers cleaned the site and washed metro entrances, streets and sidewalks with special foam. Inspection head Gogi Chikovani said illegal trading had become more common, with temporary structures reducing pedestrian movement and, in some cases, obstructing traffic, alongside documented environmental pollution and unsanitary conditions. The Social Justice Center’s Tamta Mikeladze criticized the move, arguing that City Hall ignored livelihoods and did not clearly provide alternative trading spaces or assistance before enforcement.
