The 10 best and 10 worst cities for renters
xCruzo Brief
WalletHub ranked 182 U.S. rental markets and found that renters’ outcomes vary sharply by affordability and quality of life. The analysis scored each city on a 100-point scale using 21 metrics, including the share of renters and job market conditions, combining two main categories: rental market & affordability, and quality of life. The best-performing region choice has often been the Midwest versus the Sun Belt, but Arizona made the biggest splash on the list. Cities in Arizona—Chandler, Gilbert, and Scottsdale—placed in the top five for quality of life, with Scottsdale ranking first. WalletHub reported that most renters in all three cities spend under 22% of their income on rent. The worst cities lagged below 123rd in either category.
