Nathan Stapleton, a former Cronulla Sharks winger who played 61 NRL matches, was left with a C4-level spinal cord injury after a farming accident on April 9, 2022. A dirt clump in his eye led him to buy eye drops rather than turn back during a three-hour drive to a country rugby game in Boorowa, NSW. Hours later, his head was trapped in a ruck and he was pronounced dead for 16 minutes. Now a C4 quadriplegic, he says the two reasons he keeps getting up are his sons, Angus and Harry.
