Three things we learned in Michigan State's victory over Toledo

Michigan State opened the 2023 season with a 30-20 win over Toledo on Friday, Sept. 4, and The Detroit News columnist Connor Earegood highlighted three takeaways from the Spartans’ performance. Pat Fitzgerald emphasized aggression on fourth-and-1 late in the fourth quarter—down 20-19—with a touchdown at 10:37 after connections between quarterback Alessio Milivojevic and receiver Rodney Bullard Jr. Earegood also noted two defensive gaffes that helped Toledo’s offense: a 60-yard hitch-and-go by Adjatay Dabbs and a 71-yard run by Connor Walendzak. Outside those plays, Toledo managed only six net rushing yards on 19 attempts, with one additional passing touchdown and a key interception by Kenny Soares Jr.
