Walmart Adds Subway Restaurant Delivery to Capture Meal Budgets | PYMNTS.com
Walmart has integrated Subway delivery into its Express Delivery program, marking the retailer’s first restaurant partnership in the service. The feature lets customers order Subway through the Walmart app or Walmart.com, customize with individual toppings, and have meals delivered in 30 minutes or less, with prices aligned to restaurant menus. The rollout began in select stores across Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas, and Walmart plans to reach about 1,400 locations by the end of summer. Executives highlighted the seamless experience and predictable pricing, with no hidden fees. Walmart reported that customer demand for speed and convenience has driven a 26% rise in e-commerce sales and a 45% jump in delivery volume in Walmart U.S. in the latest quarter. CFO John David Rainey said the network reaches roughly 60% of U.S. households in 30 minutes or less, a capability that is driving engagement and membership growth. The Subway integration follows a broader trend of retailers expanding restaurant delivery to capture dine-at-home budgets, with a 28% online-purchase share reported across the U.S., UAE and Brazil.
