xCruzo Brief

Labor Day has been observed in the U.S. since the late 19th century, with the first celebration taking place in New York City on Sept. 5, 1882. It became a federal legal holiday after President Grover Cleveland signed a congressional act in 1894, setting the first Monday of September. This year, most big consumer businesses will remain open and many will run promotions. Government offices, post offices, courts and schools will be closed. U.S. stock markets and banks are also closed on Monday. Standard FedEx and UPS pickup and delivery services won’t be available, though critical services may operate at select locations. AAA expects flight prices to top domestic destinations nearly 20% higher than last year and average regular gas just under $4.10 per gallon. AAA also says cruises departing U.S. ports are about 4% cheaper year over year. It advises travelers to check weather and inspect tires, battery and fluid levels before driving.
