Why Heat's Klay Thompson shrugged off preseason shooting woes
Klay Thompson isn’t worried about a difficult preseason shooting stretch ahead of the Miami Heat’s 2026-27 season opener on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. After being bought out by the Dallas Mavericks and signing with Miami, the 36-year-old has been trying to adjust to the team’s system. In four preseason games, he shot 26.9% from the field (7 of 26) and 15% from three-point range (3 of 20), numbers that have fallen short of expectations for a player known as one of the NBA’s most accomplished long-range scorers. Thompson told The Miami Herald he expects makeable shots will eventually fall if he stays consistent. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra echoed that sentiment, saying Thompson will be “just fine” and that recent games produced good looks. Miami will host Minnesota on Wednesday night.
