ZEC Just Hit $1,200: What You Need to Know About Its Meteoric 370% Surge in 3 Months
Zcash’s native token, ZEC, surged to about $1,200, marking its first move above that level in nearly a decade. The rally is framed as a reversal after fears around a vulnerability in Zcash’s Orchard privacy pool. Developers said the issue—disclosed by founder Zooko Wilcox and members of Shielded Labs—could theoretically let a hacker create unlimited fake ZEC transactions within Orchard, though the weakness was fixed by the time it was made public. After trading around $650, ZEC fell roughly 60% to about $260 as FUD spread, then stabilized near $500 before an Aug. 19 breakout pushed it to $900 and ultimately above $1,200. The token’s market cap is now above $20 billion, and CoinGlass data cites $46 million in short liquidations in 24 hours. Grayscale launched a Zcash ETF on Aug. 25, reporting $34.4 million in net inflows.
