Adrian Dunbar: Home, Irish unity and his new Line of Duty catchphrase

Northern Ireland actor Adrian Dunbar says his Ulster roots have shaped his life, career and views, even after decades living in England. Speaking at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre after filming the BBC drama Line of Duty’s highly anticipated seventh series, Dunbar connected his fictional role as Supt Ted Hastings, who leads the anti-corruption unit AC-12, to his Fermanagh heritage. He recalled starting out in an Enniskillen abattoir in freezing temperatures and taking a place at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1980. Dunbar discussed housing as a central political issue and described Brexit as fueling English nationalism, while saying constitutional change in Ireland is “on the road to happening.”
