America's Favorite Soccer Coach Is Back With a New Gig As 'Ted Lasso' Returns

“Ted Lasso” returns with a new direction for Apple TV’s hit comedy. After a three-year hiatus, Season 4 shifts to women’s soccer in the U.S., building on ideas developed after the show wrapped. Co-creator Brendan Hunt said the writers gathered at a resort in Ojai, California, for two days to brainstorm and ultimately decided Richmond and London were too core to leave behind, leading instead to the creation of a women’s team coached by Lasso. The season premieres Aug. 5. Creators also discussed the strong female presence in writing—attributed to the nearly half-female writers’ room and the founders’ backgrounds—and introduced Tanya Reynolds as one of Ted’s assistant coaches.
