Lionel Messi returned to his Argentine hometown in the wake of the World Cup final defeat, landing at Rosario airport around 6:30 am local time (0930 GMT) on Tuesday. The report from AFP, citing a local government source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Messi arrived on a private jet with his wife and three children. Footage published by ESPN showed a gray SUV taking Messi into a gated community in Funes, where he owns a home used when he visits during trips to Rosario in central Argentina. The national team and coach Lionel Scaloni had already arrived in Buenos Aires on Monday night, drawing thousands of fans. Argentina lost the final to Spain 1-0, and Messi, 39, broke down in tears after Sunday’s loss. During the tournament, he scored eight goals.
