Arthur Fery fuelled by belief as he faces Alexander Zverev in Wimbledon semis
Arthur Fery’s Wimbledon run is being fueled by belief as the 23-year-old faces Alexander Zverev in the men’s semi-finals on Friday. Fery entered the tournament as a wild card ranked 114, but after five victories he reached the last four, joining Zverev, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Only Goran Ivanisevic previously made a Wimbledon semi-final as a wild card, and Fery’s rise is described as unprecedented in the men’s game. He is relishing a step up, saying he has “nothing to lose” and intends to put his game on Centre Court. Having not been on Thursday’s practice schedule, he said fatigue has grown after straight-sets wins including over Flavio Cobolli. Zverev has dropped just two sets and arrives after winning his first slam at Roland Garros.
