xCruzo Brief
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has delayed the 2027 Asian Cup by nearly a year due to conflict in the Middle East and security concerns for the host, Saudi Arabia. In a statement Tuesday, the AFC said consultations with Saudi organizers led it to move the tournament’s start from Jan. 7 to Dec. 23. The new window runs Dec. 23, 2027 through Jan. 21, 2028, with the updated dates to be submitted to FIFA for approval. The monthlong competition was originally set for 24 teams across Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar. Iran is in the league stage with Syria, China and Kyrgyzstan.
