Athletics-Coe says Kenya doping fight improving ahead of 2029 World Championships
xCruzo Brief
World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said Kenya is making progress in its fight against doping but still has “significant work” ahead as it prepares to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. Speaking in Nairobi, Coe noted that since the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) was set up in 2017, more than 140 Kenyan athletes have been sanctioned for doping offences. He attributed improvements to reforms introduced after his 2015 presidency, including more intensive, extensive and intelligence-led testing by the independent AIU. Coe said doping cannot be eliminated completely, but athletics is in a stronger position than a decade ago, and hosting the championships could focus efforts.
