Battle Mountain boys soccer team falls to Kent Denver in second round of 4A playoffs
Battle Mountain’s boys soccer season ended with a 2-0 loss to Kent Denver in the second round of the 4A playoffs on Wednesday. Down 2-0 against the No. 3 seed early, coach Dave Cope told his team to ignore the scoreboard and focus on playing together, even if it were their last 40 minutes. The Huskies managed to keep the match scoreless through the rest of the first half and most of the second despite being short-handed after a red card late on. They also limited Kent Denver from adding to the tally, but couldn’t generate many attacking chances. Battle Mountain, which had reached state semifinals four consecutive years from 2021-2024, finished 7-7-3 overall and 6-3-1 third in the Western Slope League. Kent Denver advanced to face No. 6 Regis Groff.
