Bishopstown defeat St Finbarr's to land Muirgheal MacSwiney Cup at Ballinlough
Bishopstown secured the Cork City Council Muirgheal MacSwiney Cup by defeating reigning champions St Finbarr’s 2-12 to 2-5 in the decider at Ballinlough. After an evenly contested opening half, St Finbarr’s had an early goal disallowed. St Finbarr’s started strongly with a point from play by Aoife Byrne-O’Riordan, answered by Eirne Ní Dheasmhunaigh for Bishopstown. Although Byrne-O’Riordan’s long-range opener was ruled out due to a square-ball infringement, Bishopstown gradually seized control. By halftime, Bishopstown led 1-7 to 1-4, with goals from Niamh O’Donoghue and Farrah Geasley. The second half became one-sided as Bishopstown limited St Finbarr’s to 1-1 from placed balls, adding two further goals and extending their advantage to 2-10 to 1-4 at the water break. Key scorers for Bishopstown included O’Donoghue (2-0) and Ní Dheasmhunaigh (0-4).
