Can any teams stop West region in Super 25 football national title race?
The Super 25 national title race continues to center on whether the West region can dominate again. Historically, a champion has come from the West in 10 of the past 12 years, with last year’s 15-0 Buford (Georgia) ending a stretch of four straight winners crowned after matchups spanning Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), Mater Dei (Santa Ana, California) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower, California). As the new season approaches, programs such as IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida), St. Frances Academy (Maryland) and Waxahachie (Texas) are discussed as potential threats. In the Preseason West Region rankings, St. John Bosco sits atop, after titles in 2019 and 2022 and a 9-2 finish last year. Quarterback Koa Malau'ulu led a prolific passing attack with 33 touchdowns and five interceptions while the roster returns key contributors. Mater Dei, a four-time national champion winner of recent editions, faces offensive turnover after losing key starters. Yet its defense is anchored by CB Danny Lang, DL Montana Toilolo and safety Ace Leutele, while Centennial and Santa Margarita are highlighted as challengers.
