Cavs' Mitchell agrees to $273M max extension as Donovan Mitchell reaches a four-year, $273 million maximum contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The deal, described by Austin Brown, co-head of basketball at CAA, includes a player option for 2030-31 and a full trade kicker, and was announced Tuesday. ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported Mitchell could have waited until next summer for an additional season worth $80 million more, to a five-year, $353 million framework, but he chose to extend as soon as he was eligible. The extension replaces the final guaranteed year of his prior contract, which had included a 2027 player option. Mitchell, 29, is a seven-time All-Star who has averaged 26.7 points, 5.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds in Cleveland, reaching the playoffs each season since his 2022 trade from Utah. The Cavs’ elimination by the New York Knicks on May 26 followed his “unfinished business” comments after the loss.
