Champions League football could be played at Stamford Bridge this season after UEFA ruling

Chelsea could host Champions League football at Stamford Bridge this season even after missing out on UEFA’s top competition. The Blues finished 10th in the 2025-26 Premier League, so they won’t take part in any of UEFA’s three European tournaments. Still, UEFA rulings could open the door for their stadium to stage Champions League matches. Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool secured spots in the Champions League, while sixth-placed Bournemouth and seventh-placed Sunderland will play in the Europa League. Brighton earned the final European spot in eighth but still must qualify for the Europa Conference League group stage, while Brentford (ninth) and Chelsea (10th) narrowly missed. It’s a bitter result for Chelsea, who won the Europa League in 2019, Champions League in 2021 and Conference League in 2025, but they’re set to focus domestically under new head coach Xabi Alonso.
