College football: 5 of the top 7 teams lost in the regular season for the first time

Five of the top seven teams in the AP Top 25 lost in the regular season on the same day for the first time in history, according to Sportradar. The upheaval was driven heavily by the SEC: No. 1 Georgia, No. 6 Alabama and No. 7 Texas all suffered defeats as heavy favorites. No. 2 Notre Dame also fell at No. 8 BYU, while fifth-ranked Indiana lost to No. 4 Ohio State. The shakeup cleared the way for No. 3 Miami to move to the top after beating Florida State 43-35 in double overtime. Georgia’s 27-24 loss at Auburn featured two late turnovers by Gunner Stockton.
