Other reporting disputes that point, with El Objetivo claiming assessments flagged possible mass entries into Ceuta and Melilla around Morocco’s Throne Day. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska told reporters in Ceuta that there was no warning. Morocco’s government said Monday the events stemmed from trafficking networks, disinformation and misreadings of a Supreme Court ruling. The provisional toll on Monday was at least 72 deaths, most by drowning.
