Cuomo to Trump: More Disaster Help, Less Football Talk
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told President Trump to focus more on hurricane recovery and less on criticizing NFL players, speaking Monday to business leaders in the Adirondacks. Cuomo cited devastation in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and criticized Trump for a “long string” of divisive comments that he said distract from urgent priorities. He referenced the national-anthem controversy sparked in 2016 by quarterback Colin Kaepernick and said the administration should prioritize public safety over debates about whether players kneel. The governor noted New York’s response efforts, including National Guard deployments, state troopers, helicopters, and supplies such as drinking water and electric generators after visiting Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. He also pointed to looming Medicaid funding cuts and rising tensions involving North Korea.
