East Rockingham football posts shutout of Central, improves to 2-0
East Rockingham cruised to a 21-0 shutout over Central on Friday, improving to 2-0 under first-year head coach Dontae Gholson. The Eagles’ defense kept Central off the scoreboard all night, and East Rockingham’s offense pulled away with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Gholson said it was the first time he’s seen the team start the season with back-to-back wins, emphasizing energy, effort, and a “refuse to lose” mentality. Dorien Gholson scored for East Rockingham with 10:12 left in the first quarter. After a field-goal attempt ricocheted off the upright, the game stayed scoreless until late in the fourth: Aiden Raines connected with Gholson for a gain inside the 5, then Demetrius Arrington powered in at 10:22. A forced turnover by Alex Jerrells led to the final score at 8:47 as East Rockingham sealed the shutout.
