European Parliament Condemns Muslim Brotherhood, Calls For Crackdown on Islamist Influence
The European Parliament approved a resolution condemning the Muslim Brotherhood and calling for stronger measures against Islamist influence within European institutions. The center-right European People’s Party spearheaded the vote, which follows the Trump administration’s designation of the Muslim Brotherhood and four affiliated branches as terrorist organizations. French lawmaker Céline Imart, who sponsored the measure, described it as a “historic” European first, urging greater scrutiny of foreign funding, including groups connected to Qatar and Turkey, and more transparency around EU funding tied to suspected Brotherhood links. Lawmakers also urged the European Council to consider adding Brotherhood-linked individuals and organizations to the EU’s terrorist list. The move is not binding legislation, and critics from the European Network Against Racism said it could be discriminatory.
