Firm fined £60k after man electrocuted during football match

A leisure facilities management firm has been fined £60,000 after a man was electrocuted during a five‑a‑side football match. Albert Xhediku, 34, climbed over a fence at the Mountbatten Leisure Centre in Portsmouth to fetch a ball when he was shocked by a floodlight on January 17, 2016, and died later that day in hospital. An HSE investigation found worn and faulty wiring that Parkwood Community Leisure had failed to inspect or repair, with the defect present for years despite a prior reported incident. Parkwood pleaded guilty to breaching the Health and Safety Act and was fined £60,000 plus £40,000 in costs at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on June 16.
