Former SSU standout Mitchell to play with Pistons in NBA Summer League as Latavious Mitchell gets an opportunity with Detroit’s summer roster. The former Shawnee State standout, who played for the Bears from 2020-21 through 2022-23 and was part of Shawnee State’s 2021 NAIA National Championship team, will join the Pistons for their NBA Summer League stint beginning Thursday, July 9, at the Thomas and Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas. Mitchell’s college production included averages of 12.9 points and 8.8 rebounds in 2022-23 on 53.7% shooting, then 13.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and strong defensive numbers at Florida Memorial in 2023-24. After that, he played in Ireland for Ballincollig, helping deliver a 17-5 record and another league title plus a National Cup.
