Freshman OLB can transform Washington football's pass rush
Washington Huskies defensive coordinator Ryan Walters is looking for a boost to a pass rush that recorded 24 sacks in 2025, ranking No. 12 in the Big Ten. The article says the program could turn to freshman outside linebacker Ramzak Fruean, a former four-star recruit from in-state Bethel High School, after spring practice showed early impact. At 6-foot-4 and 232 pounds, Fruean’s length and athleticism translated quickly into disruptive plays behind the line of scrimmage. Walters told reporters in early May after Washington’s spring game that Fruean was the “splash play” performer throughout spring. Although there was an initial plan to flex him between inside and outside linebacker, the staff moved him fully to the edge after practices. The piece adds that he does not turn 18 until November and expects his growth over the offseason and summer to help him contribute as a true freshman.
