Georgia football defense ranked among nation's best

Georgia’s defense is being flagged as one of college football’s best units going into the 2026 season after J.D. Pickett released a top-10 ranking of defenses. The Oregon Ducks were listed No. 1, with Oklahoma No. 2 and Notre Dame No. 3, while the Georgia Bulldogs landed at No. 4. Georgia is also identified as the second-highest-rated SEC team on the list. The Bulldogs finished 2025 at 12-2 overall and 7-1 in the SEC, reaching the Sugar Bowl before falling 39-34 to Mississippi. Defensively, Georgia was ranked 10th in team defense in 2025 and had the SEC’s second-best scoring defense behind Oklahoma. The outlook includes a push to improve a pass rush that produced just 20 sacks last season.
