Giants showing signs that they might have fixed biggest weakness

The New York Giants showed early signs of fixing their biggest weakness: run defense, following coach Brian Harbaugh’s offseason focus on the problem. Last season, the Giants finished 31st in Pro Football Focus run-defense ratings. During Sunday night’s 28-20 debut win over Dallas, they held the Cowboys to 69 rushing yards on 18 carries (3.8 per attempt). After Week 1, New York is 19th in PFF’s run defense ratings. The game reflected that control at the line of scrimmage, with the Giants running 68 total plays versus 52 for Dallas and holding the ball for 13:20 more. Harbaugh signed middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to a two-year, $25.5 million deal and drafted Arvell Reese at No. 5, using him at weak-side linebacker.
