Grading Each of MSU Football's 3 Phases Entering Week 6

Michigan State dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play after a 31-3 blowout loss at Wisconsin, and the review through Week 5 shows why. Offensively, the Spartans average just 305.6 yards per game (126th in FBS) and 4.52 yards per play—worst among Power Four teams. They’ve scored 26 points in three games vs. Power Four opponents, averaging 8.7 per game, and their longest play was only 13 yards at Wisconsin. With Cam Edwards out for the year and QB Alessio Milivojevic limited in mobility, the offense lacks explosiveness. Defensively, injuries have softened the unit, earning a C+ grade.
