Greece names Qualifiers squad as Giannis misses FIBA window

Greece has named a 17-player roster for the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers window, with head coach Vassilis Spanoulis looking to improve after a 3–3 record in the previous stage. Training camp begins this Friday, including two warm-up friendlies in Athens: against Poland on August 22 and Cyprus on August 24. The team then flies to Riga to play Ukraine on August 28, before facing Spain in Athens. The squad will be missing NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo due to scheduling conflicts, while NCAA prospects Alexandros Samodurov, Neoklis Avdalas and Vangelis Zougris were not released because of strict academic residency requirements. Kostas Papanikolaou and Nick Calathes lead a core that includes EuroLeague players from Olympiacos and Panathinaikos Aktor.
