Grimsby grassroots football club cheered for getting kids moving
A Grimsby-based grassroots football club, Future Football, has been praised for efforts to make the sport more accessible and encourage regular exercise. Founded by Jamie Ferns, the club started after her son found another group too strict and stopped enjoying training. Future Football runs weekly sessions for hundreds of children across a range of ages, including community sessions focused on fun and team training nights. Ferns said Saturday mornings are about getting parents and kids outdoors and active, welcoming anyone who wants to play, even casually. To ease costs, the club operates a donation point for items such as old boots and shin pads. North East Lincolnshire Council highlighted the model under its “Play Together and Move Together” initiatives. This Saturday, the club meets at Oasis Academy Wintringham 3G Pitch from 10am-11am.
