Heat predicted to pass on LeBron James, sign $305M future Hall of Famer, 17-year veteran All-Star
The Miami Heat are positioned as a leading option for LeBron James after high-profile remarks and renewed media discussion tied to their summer acquisition plans. At Giannis Antetokounmpo’s introductory press conference, Heat president Pat Riley joked they need “another plane to land,” referencing LeBron, while ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said the timing suggests Miami is trying to make a strong appeal. Windhorst highlighted that the fit could work if LeBron wants an offensive style centered on ball handling, with Giannis and Bam Adebayo providing defensive support. After the event, Riley told reporters that Miami is “waiting to see what he does.” If James does not sign, CBS Sports’ Robby Kalland suggested Miami could pivot toward DeMar DeRozan, noting the need for shooting and that DeRozan brings an established mid-range scoring game. DeRozan has earned more than $305 million in NBA contracts.
