Hidden gem' seaside town with sandy beaches is perfect for UK staycation

Shanklin, a seaside town on the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight, has been promoted as a “like a fairytale” staycation destination for the UK’s hot summer weather. The town is known for golden sandy beaches, striking sandstone cliffs and the historic Old Village with centuries-old thatched cottages. Shanklin Beach and The Esplanade offer family-friendly entertainment, including classic fish and chip shops, water sports and themed crazy-golf courses. Visitors can also use the historic Cliff Lift, which has carried people down to the Esplanade since 1957, and visit Shanklin Chine, first opened in 1817.
