High school flag football top 5: North Coast Section playoffs heat up

The North Coast Section’s flag football playoffs are heating up in only the sport’s third season offering postseason play, and the top seeds have mostly delivered. Four top seeds advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals after quarterfinal wins Saturday, while in Division 3 fifth seed Moreau Catholic–Hayward pulled a 31-25 upset over No. 4 Hercules. In Division 3, the other three top seeds also moved on, and each division began with 16 teams. The format relies on enrollment divisions rather than computer rankings. Cardinal Newman–Santa Rosa, defending Division 2 champions, hosts Moreau Catholic (12-11) after beating Vallejo 52-0.
