Hochul unveils energy rebate checks for 8M+ New York households

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced energy rebate checks for more than 8 million households, starting next Monday and running through December. A total of 8.2 million households will receive the one-time “Protecting Our Wallets Energy Rebate (POWER)” funded through the state budget’s $1 billion allocation. The maximum check is $200 for joint filers earning under $150,000. Joint filers with incomes between $150,000 and $300,000 will get $150, while single filers earning under $150,000 will receive $100. Hochul cited rising utility and gas costs, linking recent pressure to federal tariffs and regional energy disruptions.
