India Never Asked Anyone to Abandon Their Faith as Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed an interfaith audience in Srinagar on Saturday. Speaking at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Sinha said India has never imposed a religion on others or asked people to give up their faith, arguing instead that it welcomes different beliefs with the message, “Come with your faith and live with us.” He linked the country’s civilisational identity to inclusivity and mutual respect, citing concepts such as Dharma as well as references to the Rig Veda, Atharva Veda and the Bhagavad Gita. Sinha also said historical exchanges, including Sanskrit-to-Arabic translations, reflected dialogue over confrontation. The remarks emphasized Kashmiriyat’s role in sustaining a composite culture rooted in compassion.
