Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, doubled down on a message of joy during ongoing criticism surrounding the 2026 North America World Cup. After controversies involving U.S. entry restrictions, visa disputes, and a deferral of U.S. striker Folarin Balogun’s suspension following Donald Trump’s intervention, Infantino said FIFA still delivered “the world’s greatest show.” He cited more than 7 million attendees from over 200 countries, while addressing denied visas for Iranian officials—granting visas only to core team staff and players. Iranian captain Mehdi Taremi called the tournament “disastrous,” and Infantino rejected claims of safety issues, saying security remained 100% in place. Infantino also dismissed questions about the Balogun suspension as typical disciplinary processes elsewhere.
