Iran deal grants access to nuclear inspectors, IAEA chief says
Iran deal grants access to nuclear inspectors, the IAEA chief said on Friday, after Tehran indicated that key sites would remain off-limits until a final accord with Washington is reached and sanctions are lifted. Speaking in Japan, Rafael Grossi said the interim U.S.-Iran peace arrangement requires the International Atomic Energy Agency to have access and carry out inspections, adding that the agency hopes to be there soon. The U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding last week that opens 60 days of talks on difficult issues, including Iran’s nuclear program. Grossi said UN inspectors have already conducted an initial technical exchange and that the first check would be whether IAEA seals on previously inspected material remain intact and whether anything is missing. He also noted Iran has not told the IAEA how much enriched uranium survived attacks by the U.S. and Israel or where it is.
