Irish League: What is the relationship between gambling and football in Northern Ireland??

Northern Ireland’s Irish League is tightening its rules on gambling and football after concerns that the issue is reaching players from the academy level upward. The Irish FA’s betting regulations prohibit players from betting on any matches involving their club—at men’s, women’s, or underage levels—and also ban anyone from placing bets on their behalf. Michael Carvill, head of the Professional Footballers’ Association in Northern Ireland, said the problem can be hard to spot until players’ moods visibly shift after checking phones post-match. The PFA is working with the Irish FA and the Gambling Support Group, using education and support for players.
