Ivory Coast Star Elye Wahi Denied Entry To Canada For Germany Clash
Ivory Coast star Elye Wahi has been denied entry to Canada for Ivory Coast's World Cup clash with Germany in Toronto, according to the Ivorian federation. The federation said that the administrative authorisations for entry had not been obtained, meaning the 23-year-old forward cannot travel with the delegation for Saturday's match. Wahi, who is part of Ivory Coast's squad for the 2026 World Cup, was arrested by French police in May as part of an ongoing probe into alleged spot-fixing and organised fraud. The Athletic reported investigators are examining claims that he tried to obtain a yellow card in a Ligue 1 match between Nice and Metz on 17 May.
French authorities disclosed that Wahi was released after questioning and that the investigation remains active; the Marseille public prosecutor's office confirmed the arrest and ongoing inquiries. The Ligue de Football Professionnel said it has opened a separate review but has not imposed disciplinary measures at this stage. Ivory Coast's federation did not provide further comment on the visa issue, but reaffirmed the player's inclusion in the World Cup squad. The situation adds to concerns about integrity in the sport ahead of a major tournament, though no direct disciplinary action against Wahi has been announced.
