Jalen Hurts' latest Philly assist: $600K to keep Philly students cool

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ latest community investment is $600,000 to help keep students cool during summer classes that can exceed 90 degrees. The donation builds on at least $800,000 he has already given toward the district’s goal of equipping every school with adequate cooling by 2027. During a pep rally Tuesday at Northeast High School, Superintendent Tony Watlington said the number of schools without proper cooling has dropped to 52, from 118 in 2022. Hurts’ money will add air conditioning for the school’s 1,400-seat community hub used for town halls and musical performances. The district estimates upgrades can cost $1 million to $1.5 million per school. The auditorium is expected to have air conditioning by the start of the 2027-28 school year.
