Jarron Collins Reflects On Jason's Posthumous ESPYs Honor, 'Very Humbled'
Jarron Collins’ comments highlighted the emotional significance of his brother Jason Collins receiving a posthumous honor at the 2026 ESPYs. Jason Collins, the late NBA pioneer, died earlier this year after an aggressive form of brain cancer, and was recognized on Wednesday for contributions to the league. He notably became the first openly gay active player in major pro sports, with a video first documenting his 2013 announcement before shifting to his health battle. Jason posthumously received the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, and his twin brother Jarron accepted on his behalf. Jarron said the gesture was “very humbling,” while noting the family is “doing OK” but still grieving. The league observed a moment of silence, including teams honoring his May 12 death.
