Klopp makes decision on Germany job as Naglesmann walks after World Cup exit
Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as Germany head coach after the team’s latest World Cup exit, while Jurgen Klopp is being linked as a potential successor. Germany failed to qualify from the group stage for the second consecutive tournament and were eliminated in the last 32 this week, losing to Paraguay on penalties. Nagelsmann had met with the German Football Association (DFB) leadership in Frankfurt on Thursday for a confidential three-hour session that included DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, Bundesliga chief Hans-Joachim Watzke and sporting director Rudi Voller. Bild reported the committee strongly recommended he step down, with a severance package said to be worth around £million. Klopp, 59, stepped away from Liverpool in 2024 and now works for Red Bull GmbH; he is also a German TV pundit during the World Cup.
